French toast is not only a tasty breakfast to start the day with, but also a creative way to use stale bread. This time we decided to replace bread with panettone, one of the most common leftovers cake of the Christmas holidays, to offer you French toast!

Inspired by the classic American breakfast pancakes, we stacked the golden slices of panettone on a plate, alternating them with dark chocolate chips and sprinkled with plenty of maple syrup. Be inspired and serve the panettone French toast differently each time, for example by adding wild berries or caramelized apples!

INGREDIENTS

  • Panettone 500 g
  • Eggs 3
  • Whole milk 100 g
  • Butter 50 g
  • Cinnamon powder 1 pinch

TO WARN

  • Dark chocolate 50 g
  • Maple syrup q.b.

PREPARATION

To prepare french toast panettone, first cut the panettone into 10 slices about 2 cm thick1. Chop the dark chocolate2and keep it aside, then pour the eggs into a bowl 3.

Beat the eggs with a whisk, add the milk4and cinnamon5and stir again to mix everything together. Now melt a knob of butter in a pan6.

Dip the slices of panettone on both sides in the egg and milk mixture7, then toast them in the pan for about 2 minutes on each side8, until they are golden brown9. Continue in this way with the rest of the panettone, adding more butter in the pan in case it becomes too dry.

You are ready to assemble your French toast: place a slice of panettone on the plate, garnish with chopped chocolate10and cover with another slice of panettone11. Put on more chopped chocolate and sprinkle with maple syrup12. Your panettone French toast is ready to be enjoyed!

HOW TO STORAGE

It is advisable to eat it immediately.

TIP

If you prefer you can accompany the French panettone toast with fresh red fruits or with a scoop of ice cream!
